Don't Contact Us

We’ve talked before about the posts where people misunderstand that we just wrote about something, and are not actually connected to the thing we wrote about. Consider the legendary Bill Gates, Philanthropist post.

Well, when we re-designed this site last month, I decided to include a helpful contact us page, and put Blend’s phone number on there.

Since then, we have:

I'm finally starting to see this on my site. I wrote several detailed articles about a computer virus that I had to deal with. I now have several nasty comments from people telling me to get my crap off their PC.

I feel your pain, I wrote an article back in March on how I used Knoppix to remedy the dreaded XP c000000-oh-no-21aaack! whatever error (click on m name for gory details) ...

... like Matt Smith, I get some interesting comments and questions, as if I was the soul author of either Windows XP and/or Knoppix.

I had to disable the comments form on several articles I've written due to the interesting comments I get. People somehow think I'm customer service for one company or another and leave contact details, credit card numbers, and all sorts of personal information.

I once got a 3am call from someone unhappy with their Cingular bill. And I get emails on a regular basis from people who want me to solve their cell phone problems.

Incidentally, remember when we both wrote blog posts entitled "Stupid Cell Phone Tricks" within a week or so of each other? And you challenged me to a Google ranking duel for that phrase? I'm still in the #1 spot. And you're not on the first 5 pages. :)
